Vacancies for Parish Councillors

We currently have two vacancies for Parish Councillors that we are looking to fill by co-option.

If you are interested in being considered for this important community role please get in touch with our Clerk .  In particular we would like to hear of any specific skills or interests that you believe would benefit our community.

If you would like an informal discussion about what is involved with the Chairman or any other member of the Parish Council the Clerk can arrange this.

The role is unpaid and includes approximately 11 meetings a year, depending on the level of involvement.

Please note that to be eligible to stand for election as a Parish Councillor you must be:

  • at least 18 years old
  • be a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of any member state of the European Union, and
  • meet at least one of the following four qualifications:
  • a. You are, and will continue to be, registered as a local government elector for the parish/community in which you wish to stand from the day of your nomination onwards.
  • You have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the parish/community area during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of election.
  • Your main or only place of work during the 12 months prior to the day of your nomination and the day of election has been in the parish/community area.
  • You have lived in the parish/community area or within three miles of it during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of election.

There are a number of circumstances which can disqualify people from standing for election.  Our Clerk will be able to advise you about these, but the main ones are if you:

  • Are employed by the Parish Council
  • are the subject of a bankruptcy restriction order or interim order
  • have, within five years before the day of the election, been convicted in the United Kingdom of any offence and have had a prison sentence (whether suspended or not) for a period of over three months without the option of a fine
  • You have been disqualified under the Representation of the People Act 1983 (which covers corrupt or illegal electoral practices and offences relating to donations).

We look forward to hearing from you.
